The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of East West College of Pharmacy, Bengaluru–91, organized a Community Awareness and Free Eye Check-Up Camp at Kannahalli Village on 30th and 31st January 2026. The programme was conducted in association with Dream Health Care and Vasan Eye Care Hospital Bengaluru, with the objective of promoting community health awareness, preventive healthcare, and social responsibility among both students and villagers.
DAY 1: On 30th January 2026, the camp was formally inaugurated in the presence of healthcare professionals, village representatives, NSS coordinators, and faculty members. During the inaugural session, the importance of community health, preventive healthcare, and the spirit of social service was emphasized, highlighting the role of such initiatives in improving the well-being of rural communities.
Following the inauguration, medical professionals from Vasan Eye Care Hospital carried out comprehensive eye examinations for the villagers. In addition to the screenings, basic eye health education was provided, and individuals requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities for advanced treatment.
The camp benefited approximately 100 villagers, who underwent blood pressure (BP) and GRBS screening. In addition, counselling sessions were conducted on the prevention and management of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and arthritis, along with guidance on safe pesticide handling and necessary safety precautions to promote better occupational and health practices among the villagers.
In the afternoon session, NSS volunteers organized interactive awareness programmes for school students, addressing topics such as digital literacy, guidance on higher education, personal hygiene, and menstrual hygiene awareness. These sessions were designed to motivate students to adopt healthier lifestyles and make informed choices regarding their education and personal development.
DAY 2: On 31st January 2026, NSS volunteers actively participated in a village cleanliness drive, during which they cleaned various public areas of the village. This activity aimed to promote awareness among villagers about the importance of sanitation, hygiene, and environmental responsibility, while encouraging collective participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
In the concluding session of the day, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, an awareness session on Environmental pollution and its prevention was conducted. The session provided valuable insights into the various forms of environmental pollution, their adverse effects on human health and the ecosystem, and the practical measures that can be adopted to prevent and reduce environmental degradation.
Overall, the NSS Village Camp at Kannahalli Village was a highly successful and impactful initiative that truly embodied the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You.” The camp effectively addressed key community health and environmental concerns, while nurturing awareness, social responsibility, and meaningful engagement between students and the rural community.
