WORLD PHARMACISTS DAY 2024

East West College of Pharmacy celebrated World Pharmacists Day on 25th September 2024, with a focus on the theme “Clinical Pharmacists: Catalysts for Global Health Improvement.” The event featured two distinguished guest speakers who provided insightful sessions for the students and faculty.

Dr. Keerthishree Gandaneni, Senior Oncology Clinical Pharmacist and BMT Coordinator at Sparsh Hospitals, Bengaluru, presented on “Roles and Responsibilities of Clinical Pharmacists in the Hemat-Oncology/BMT Unit.” She highlighted the integral part of clinical pharmacists in patient management within the hematology and bone marrow transplant units, emphasizing medication management, patient counseling, and supporting the healthcare team in optimizing treatment outcomes.

The second session was delivered by Dr. Alsanas T, Deputy Pharmacy Head and Clinical Pharmacist at MES Medical College Hospital, Perinthalmanna, Kerala. He focused on, “Antimicrobial Resistance: The Silent Pandemic”, the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Dr. Alsanas explained the global impact of AMR, its contributing factors, and the role of clinical pharmacists in antimicrobial stewardship to mitigate this silent pandemic.

The event was well-received and reinforced the vital role of clinical pharmacists in improving global health outcomes
